Print on textiles
There are still some territories – inhabited or not – that are not subject to the sovereignty of any State. They are known as Terra nullius, lands that belong to no-one. Through images generated by the artist’s travels in virtual cartography software, Roland invites us to explore one of these unclaimed territories, i.e., Marie Byrd Land in Antarctica,. The interplay of superimposed textiles in the exhibition space reflects her immersion in the topographical layers of this no-man’s-land. This remote, isolated land arises from the mist like a phantom looming along a deserted coastline.
