Print on textiles
There remain some territories – inhabited or not – that are not under the sovereignty of any State. They are known as Terra nullius, lands that belong to no one. Through images created from the artist’s journeys using virtual cartography software, Roland invites us to explore one of these unclaimed territories, namely Marie Byrd Land in Antarctica. The arrangement of layered textiles within the exhibition space mirrors her immersion in the topographical layers of this no-man’s-land. This remote, isolated land emerges from the mist like a phantom looming along a deserted coastline.
